Biofiltration Guidance Manual for Drinking Water Facilities

This project looked at biofilter design and operating experiences across the water industry to develop a consolidated set of guidelines for the design, operation, maintenance, and monitoring of biologically active rapid-rate gravity filters. The resulting biofiltration guidance manual is the definitive resource for biofiltration design and operation that utilities can use to leverage intentional biofiltration, mitigate unintended consequences, and improve overall biofilter performance. In addition to providing practical and comprehensive guidance for operators, engineers, regulators, manufacturers, and researchers, the guidance manual includes 12 appendices comprised of essential supplemental and stand-alone reference material.
