Smart Sensors for Buried Utility Location and Performance Monitoring

Abstract
Proves the concept of a remotely-interrogated so-called smart water pipe, where large numbers of small sensors (or sensor circuits) are incorporated into or near the pipe and associated communication systems are deployed in order to monitor the condition or status of the pipe and/or its contents. The benefits of a smart pipe would include greater efficiencies regarding ongoing and preventative maintenance, warning of impending failure and indicating pipe location, and other key issues of importance to utility management.
