Technology and Innovation for Assessing Operability and Full Closure of High Consequence Valves
Abstract
This project aims to shed light on issues regarding locating high-consequence valves (with the focus on gate valves of 24 inches in diameter and larger) and address their critical role in the resiliency of water distribution systems. These high-consequence valves are crucial due to their strategic importance within the distribution network. Some utilities have recognized the necessity of maintaining high consequence valves and have implemented active maintenance programs. This project will utilize data from such utilities, along with detailed case studies, to objectively evaluate existing maintenance approaches and disseminate “successful” processes. The project will explore the potential integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to enhance the assessment and maintenance processes.
