Regional Solutions to Concentrate Management
Abstract
Desalination projects sometimes fail because concentrate disposal and management can adversely affect the environment. This study surveyed concentrate disposal and management practices and developed a decision methodology for managers, regulators, and other stakeholders to assess the viability of desalination concentrate disposal options on a regional and local basis. This decision methodology can be used to assess options for concentrate disposal based on environmental impacts, sustainability, costs, and regulatory and public acceptability.
