Minimizing Mercury Emissions in Biosolids Incinerators
Abstract
This study included an extensive study of publicly owned treatment facilities that incinerate biosolids to determine what analytical techniques are employed for all matrices, biosolids incinerator design and operational parameters, testing frequency, and historical data. The report provides the technical background needed to recognize, sample, analyze, and evaluate multiple mercury species in an effort to specify and design effective mercury minimization systems and processes. It includes a comprehensive literature review summarizing the current understanding of mercury speciation in combustion gas and provides guidance for mass balance study design and application.
