Abstract

This project developed numerical models for prediction of the dynamics of (inorganic) fouling of quartz surfaces in UV photoreactors, and quantified the effects of fouling on UV disinfection efficacy. The approach involved the development of several sub-models for prediction of fouling potential on the part of metal:ligand combinations, a model to describe the correlation between foulant elemental composition and UV254 absorbance of foulants, and models to describe the dynamics of Ca- and Fe-based foulant accumulation.
