In Vitro Bioassays to Detect Estrogenic Activity in Environmental Waters

Special Report
Description

The presence of estrogenic compounds in water is of international concern because of potential adverse effects on exposed wildlife and humans. Chemical analysis has been problematic due to both the large number compounds with estrogenic activity and the ultra-low concentrations that can have estrogenic effects. Bioassays can integrate and measure the effects of complex mixtures and are becoming increasingly popular as screening tools.
