Research Digest: Infiltration vs. Surface Water Discharge: Guidance for Stormwater Managers
Abstract
This is a summary of the full WERF report, Sustainable Stormwater Management: Infiltration vs. Surface Treatment Strategies. This digest helps to focus stormwater management planning, design, and implementation toward the intended purpose of protecting the receiving water, whether it is ground- or surface water, rather than toward solely fulfilling a regulatory requirement. The document provides tools to help users to evaluate whether the planned management strategies will meet regulatory requirements, as well as potentially improve receiving water quality, or at least prevent degradation. The digest uses flow charts and checklists found in the full report to guide users through the process of determining regulatory requirements, calculating the amount of stormwater runoff, and selecting the best array of treatment devices to promote mimicking of pre-development hydrology.
