Abstract
Investigates circumferential failures in grey cast iron pipe using experimental methods and finite element modeling. Determines typical sizes of corrosion pits that contribute to circumferential failure. Based on results from experimental measurements, validates finite element models of pipes undergoing longitudinal bending. Includes three-dimensional maps of the stress distribution in real and modeled pipes and describes conditions that produce failures. Includes a CD-ROM. Published in 2005.
