Abstract

The objective of this project is to advance sensor network design and optimization, along with advanced data analytics, decision trees, and emerging predictive tools, to develop smart collection systems. This will be achieved by creating a ‘state-of-the-practice’ guidance document, which includes a comprehensive literature review, surveys, and case studies. The project aims to identify and synthesize methods to optimize the layout and use of sensor networks and advanced sensing techniques in wastewater and stormwater collection systems. This includes improving data analytics, forecasting, and real-time decision-making to support operations, preventive maintenance, and capital improvement programs. The project also aims to explore emerging technologies like Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to enhance system resilience, water recycling, and regulatory compliance.
