Abstract
This project developed a basis for implementing source treatment technologies that extend the capacities of existing activated sludge systems. The research clearly showed that integration of chemical oxidation processes with biotreatment may lead to effective handling of “problem” wastewaters. Successful implementation of the results of this research could reduce source treatment costs, improve activated sludge performance, and reduce the discharge of recalcitrant compounds to the environment.
