Abstract

This report presents the testing results of concentrate management studies co-funded by the Sub-Regional Operating Group (SROG) and the WateReuse Research Foundation from 2010 - 2012. SROG consists of the cities of Glendale, Mesa, Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe.

This work demonstrates a new potentially cost-effective approach to minimizing brine production and maximizing water recovery from the membrane treatment of high-salinity reclaimed water. This project demonstrated that organic pretreatment using ozone biologically activated filtration was demonstrated to be effective for controlling organic fouling on electrodialysis reversal membranes when used for reclaimed water reverse osmosis concentrate management.
