WRF Seeks Proposals for 12 More New Research Projects Totaling $2.8 M

The Water Research Foundation (WRF) is now accepting proposals for 12 additional research projects that will advance the science of water for communities around the world. All 24 Requests for Proposals (RFPs) are now open on WRF’s website, presenting a total research value of $5.9M. Taking a One Water approach, WRF’s new research projects focus on PFAS, artificial intelligence (AI) in the water sector, energy management, pipeline infrastructure, nature-based solutions, biological nutrient removal, workforce planning, and more:

  • Available Options for Regeneration or Disposal of PFAS-Laden Drinking Water Residuals, Media, and Waste (5285)
  • Identification and Valuation of Innovative Wastewater Residual Products Beyond Conventional Biosolids (5286)
  • Thinking Outside the Pipe: Comparison of Non-invasive, Non-destructive Condition Assessment Technologies for Distribution Pipe (5289)
  • The Emergence of AI in the Water Sector: Opportunities and Challenges for Water Resources Planning (5290)
  • Next-Generation Analytical Methods for Understanding Biological Nutrient Removal Processes (5291)
  • Comprehensive Corrosion Control Strategies for Various Water Infrastructure Materials (5293)
  • Data Management Best Practices: Integrating Data Sources for Treatment Optimization and Efficiency (5294)
  • Smart and Connected Energy Management (5296)
  • Recognizing Institutional and Organizational Capacity for Effective Workforce Development Programs (5300)
  • Optimizing Nature-based Solutions at the Watershed Scale with Real-time Sensing and Controls (5304)
  • The Foundations of Water Resource Planning: Guidance for Establishing Water Utility Service Levels (5306)
  • Investigating Progression Pathways Across the Water Workforce (5307)

Selected through WRF’s Research Priority Program, these projects will address high-priority topics for the water sector. They were chosen by WRF’s Research Advisory Council, which reviews stakeholder perspectives on challenges and opportunities facing the water sector and approves the annual research agenda.

Entities eligible to apply for funding include, but are not limited to, academic institutions, research organizations, utilities, government agencies, and consulting firms. Proposals must follow WRF’s Guidelines for Research Priority Program Proposals.
