Abstract

The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies commissioned this investigation to conduct a comprehensive review and develop a case study on the response to a major pipe break undertaken by Massachusetts Water Resources Authority and other state and local agencies. This case study presents an example of the drinking water emergency response process and analyzes the challenges, successes, and lessons learned related to this process. It identifies areas that MWRA and the other state and local responders conducted successfully as well as areas where the responders encountered challenges.
